Well it is DELICIOUS and more importantly it has more nutrients then the other milk alternatives and even matched nutrients in dairy products. Don't stop there the list continues so let me go on... It has less calories then any of the other options 60 calories in each 8 oz serving to be exact. Also, it is very heart healthy. It has NO cholesterol and is super low in sodium (5 mg). It is blood sugar friendly and has only 8 grams of carbohydrates per serving. It contains 30$% of our recommended daily value of calcium and 25% of Vitamin D, keeping out bones nice and strong. It also helps our skin with 50% vitamin D of our recommended daily value. It also contains Vitamin A which gives our eyes a little TLC. Lastly it give us more muscle power. The best part... Green Smoothie Girl (look at the link in the post below) teaches you how to make your own. Did I mention it has a super long shelf life. Gotta love my ALMOND MILK!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371860272916642439.post-68153513335898066282011-04-11T19:08:00.001-07:002011-04-11T19:25:53.191-07:00GREEN SMOOTHIE MY FAVORITEMy new PASSION. My kids drink them up and it is just veggies and fruit (almost). They are very filling and I don't feel guilty having seconds. It takes at most 5 minutes. Here is one of my favorite recipes, it is great for your first green smoothie because it isn't really green:
The first half of the blender I fill with spinach and a little water. I pretty much blend that until it is almost half way pureed spinach. If you watch the video I attached it will show you how. She has a super fancy blender in the video, I don't and it works fine. It will use a lot of spinach but I promise you wont taste it. Spinach is one of the best veggies out there. I sometimes throw in kale, sprouts, or broccoli but you can at times taste it a little more. So wait until you are use to your green smoothie to add the other's. I then put in one very ripe banana, one orange, 4 oz of vanilla or blueberry yogurt, 1/3 of a frozen 100% grape juice concentrate (save the other 2/3's you can use them on other day's for other smoothies), I then fill the rest with frozen blueberries. Once it is all in there add water to fill in the gaps. Blend. It is DELICIOUS!!! Here is a youtube video of Green Smoothie Girl making her drink I am in love with her website http://www.greensmoothiegirl.com/ everything she says is true. You will never have so much and energy and your digestive tract will have never been better, your skin will be clear, etc. It is real. I just do one smoothie a day and have seen a huge difference in my kids and my digestive, energy, health and it just makes me crave better foods. Tara has her recipe book and has some really good recipes. I know it sounds hard but now that I am use to making them it really takes under 3 minutes. You can freeze the banana's and spinach. People add extras flax seed oil etc. I haven't really done that much. Greensmoothiegirl.com has some interesting facts for you. It will keep you full all morning. It is ohhh so good and it freezes super well so we can have veggies on hand before everything is gone or close to gone. It is VEGETABLE SOUP at it's best:

2 Stalk Celery
1 Onion
3 TBS Olive Oil
6 cups chicken broth
1 14.5 oz diced tomatoes
1 can mixed veggies (you can do a cup of frozen)
1/3 cup noodles
1/3 cup barley (I tripled this)
1 can corn (you do one cup frozen)
2 cans of V-8 juice

Saute the celery and onion. Cook the barley. Add everything together and warm up. You are done! I like to add Lima beans. I usually do less chicken broth and more V-8 juice. If I plan on freezing it I do more barley and no noodles. You can toy around with the recipe. I usually do every time. Get a move on it not much time before everything is gone or is super pricey :(Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371860272916642439.post-38227622893311153082011-01-31T18:22:00.000-08:002011-01-31T18:31:57.817-08:00Almond Crunch Granola Cereal<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoWgalAHOMrc0sf8B9zQ3s7RjjoYJPhJ6u299OYfjEa-ZF9HJAwlUN0i_JLQo8yXNANywjjufk-NLvxcXSfZx33mqkp-qJkpek5zh1tz5OqFw3He3uLoYSmpYCqLNKzNBWXJv_3fU1b_Xu/s320/Cereal_granola%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568542612070910690" />

This is a great way to start your day and it is ohhhh so good! Well if I am being completely honest It was the night before Taryns birthday and there was no cake. I normally would have just gotten one from the store but this year Taryn had a special request. She wanted a cake that had a castle with princesses riding horses and mermaids in the water. At first I was going to give up on the whole idea of a fancy cake how could I fill that request but I wanted to give her a special cake for her birthday. So I used what I had in my kitchen and house it seemed to have worked out pretty well even though it wasn't everything that she wanted.
Here's what I had
1.)Strawberry flavored cake mix
2.)Chocolate frosting recipe
3.)Coconut/green dye
4.)Blue frosting
5.)Marshmallows ( like the kind that are in hot chocolate packets)
6.)my little pony figurine
I fallowed the cake recipe and once it cooled I cut it and layered it on to my cake. Then I frosted it with chocolate frosting that I made. After that I put my coconut into a bowl (about to hand fulls) with about 3 drops of green colored food dye. I mixed it around with a spoon until all the coconut was green then I put it on my cake for the grass. After that was done I took the blue frosting and made my river. The frosting that I had was in a can and had tips that I could squirt it out with. It worked great. Way better then in a bag. I had found this in the baking isle of my grocery store. Once that was done I then added the marshmallows and the pony figurines. What is great about this cake is that one, it really is easy and two, the possibilities are endless. Just change up the figurines or the color you dye the coconut. For example if you wanted a jungle theme you could put animal figurines on. Or if you wanted to do an ocean theme you could just dye the coconut blue and put your ocean figurines.
I hope this helps anyone who is trying to come up with a last minute birthday cake.Tara & Stephenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04865114250360024846noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371860272916642439.post-79542189430190594112011-01-22T09:20:00.000-08:002011-01-22T09:44:06.484-08:00Don't Worry BE Happy<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSBHXwiqUkATRCwbigiIMI5oNrMizkLyGHj0yqCqx_UIrGDCTi8jVpt0wtse2git1L7X3tT1sI-yfau_zOipYwtNXJfcOhi8EQXW2nj7-iI-y0CaDNMrGxZ5zOhsHhv73EZKYSwPBVlo7B/s320/IMGP0169.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565067006069969154" />

I have realized recently how difficult it can be to just relax and count your many blessings. EVERYONE is facing different trials. Perhaps it's illness, the economy, your marriage, parenting, loss of a love one etc. Everyone has a story to tell. Do you let yours have a happy ending? Sometimes I do, other times I have a hard time focusing on anything but me, me, me... It can be a hard habit to break. Here is one of my favorite quotes:
"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don't drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride."
"Life is to be enjoyed, not endured"
-Gordon B. Hinckley
My moments of bliss:
-sun in my window
-a happy husband
-hearing my children laugh together
-watching them sleep
-walking into a warm home
-delicious food
-seeing Gods hand in my life
-an uplifting conversation with a dear friend
-sisters
My ride is a lot more thrilling then I realized :)
I was inspired to write this post after reading my friends blog who had this quote:
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
-Charles R. Swindoll
We all can think of someone who seems to see the good in everything. I hope to be more like them :)

What are some of your moments of bliss? Here is the scenario, you are out of milk, hubby is gone, not worth getting a sitter and you have a few darling little tag alongs. A trip to the store isn't just a quick errand when you have your children come along. I would consider this normal, you go leave which means the kids are screaming because they want the milk, shoes to find, shoes to put on, buggers to wipe, shoes to put back on, you go to buckle them in but the strap is twisted, untwist, catch the other, and so the story goes, we haven't gotten to the store yet. Now breath.
Any how back to the milk, here is a way to lessen those trips to the store, save money and a more healthy solution, use instant dry milk when you are COOKING. I wouldn't suggest having a big glass of instant milk with a cookie, yuck but do subsitute it for the real deal when making something that calls for milk. You wont notice I promise. Your "real" milk will last longer and you always have instant milke on hand, it last at least a year. Another idea but a bit more expensive is to buy vanilla soy milk. You keep it in your fridge and it last several months. I use Vanilla Soy Milk when I cook sweet things that require milk. For instance french toast, pancakes etc. It gives it a nice flavor. Here is a favorite recipe I use to cook pancakes, it works with regular milk, dry milk, and soy:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 217px; height: 232px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiURMS59m5KPUqArlf6Ks6UNaGI_rHkcsp5AlCVE0S98-Bl9LqQrJBmpm6hTBzH1tLK8IZ582AUsVGxWWFZwqQ9HeEs5x5M6C7vZkCeH9lrPy1ohIyeNg422nL7UWKmb65uILNTfc2cjOXN/s320/images%255B5%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564026187964560578" />

Blueberry Pancakes:
1 Cup of Whole Wheat Flour
1 cup of Vanilla Soy milk (I add in a Tablespoon of lemon juice and let it sit to make butter milk)
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 Teaspoon Baking soda
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 egg
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
I drop some frozen blueberries while they are on the griddle. Sorry Roni (I can't leave a message on your blog, no idea why), I am now letting you know her blog is www.florencesuzette.blogspot.com
5 Ways To Lose 10 Pounds THIS MONTH!!!
This is taken directly from her blog to ours:
I am often asked for simple ideas on how to lose weight. The truth is, losing weight is always hard work, there is no quick fix. The concept is very simple (burn more energy than you intake), but it really does take sacrifice and a new way of thinking. But let me tell you, I have seen clients and friends change their thinking and have also witnessed their success! There is nothing better than conquering your weaknesses and gaining self control. I have come up with five "simple" ways to start losing weight:

1) STOP BAKING!!!!

Many of you know that I do not enjoy baking. The truth is, I do not ever WANT to enjoy it. You know why? BECAUSE I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL!!! If I bake, I will eat too much. Just the other day, I baked one of my favorite desserts. Sure enough, I practically ate the entire pan over the course of three days! And I guarantee many of you have the same problem. I don't care if it has WHOLE WHEAT in it! A calorie is a calorie! I will not own a wheat grinder until I have conquered this problem (blaspheme). Freshly baked bread will always be delicious, so I'm thinking I will not be getting over this problem any time soon. So, I purchase my whole wheat bread from the store and I occasionally enjoy eating it when YOU bake it! There. My secret is out. :)

2) STOP BUYING ICE CREAM, or your favorite indulgence

Could be chips, M & Ms, cheese, etc. It's a lot harder to give in to temptation if it's not even in your fridge, freezer, or cupboard. For me, ice cream is IT! I love chocolately and creamy...mmmmmmm. It's a lot more painful when I have to pay $3.00 for two scoops every once in a while.

3) STOP DRINKING SODA

If you cannot live without it or the caffeine, I would suggest only ONE each day, or go for diet. Although diet gives ME a belly ache. Neither is good for you!!! Maybe treat yourself on the weekends? I know the addiction, believe me, my husband is an addict. He would rather have soda than goodies any day. So as I'm preaching to you, I can't even get my husband to listen...

4) STOP EATING 2-3 HOURS BEFORE BED

This is the best one. You will love how hungry you feel for breakfast the next morning!

5) STICK TO 1200-1500 CALORIES FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Never go below 1200 calories, this is considered sub nutritious, meaning you are not reaching the recommendations your body needs for vitamins, minerals, or energy. You will be surprised at how much food you can eat! It is best to eat a variety of foods (starches, fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, and fat). FAD DIETS DO NOT WORK!!! It must be a lifestyle change, not something that you do for a short period of time until you reach your goal. Once you reach your weight loss goal, then you should increase your caloric intake to maintain.

I guarantee you will see those pounds drop if you do most of these things!!!
Posted by csperriton at 9:16 AM 0 comments Links to this postUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371860272916642439.post-20213161199185641702010-01-04T13:24:00.000-08:002011-01-19T14:45:55.330-08:00April's Yummy Coconut Cookies2 egg whites
1 1/3 coconut
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla
(makes 12 cookies)

Beat egg white (quick as can be) until still. Super easy as well. It is a hit with EVERYONE!!!

Here are the ingredients
Enough rice to equal 6/8 servings
10 oz can of Green Chili Enchilada Sauce
Cilantro
4 chicken breast
1 chipotle season packet
Black Beans
Fresh Salsa
Guacamole
CATLINA Dressing
Lettuce
Cheese
Tortilla (we love the raw once you bake in a pan)

Make Chicken as directed on seasoning packet. Make the rice. Once it is done add the enchilada sauce and chopped cilantro.
Add all the other ingredients on the burrito the way you like. The recipe is as follows:
1 package (21/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast (i actually used 1 TBL)
1/4 cup lukewarm water
1 cup cottage cheese, heated to lukewarm
2 TBLs granulated sugar
2 TBLs finely chopped onion or 1 TBL dried minced onion
1 TBL butter or margarine, softened. plus additional butter for brushing hot bread
1 TBL dill weed
1 teas. salt
1/4 teas baking soda
1 egg
2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Soften yeast in water in a small bowl and set aside. In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, sugar, onion, 1 TBL butter, dill weed, salt, baking soda, egg, and softened yeast. Add flour to form a stiff dough, beating well after each addition. Cover and let rise in a warm place, until light and doubled in size, about 50 to 60 minutes. Punch dough down. Turn into a well-greased, 1 1/2 to2 quart round casserole. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes, or until golden brown. brush with soft buter and sprinkle with salt.

It is very delicious and I got the dill from my garden! She is totally fit and yes, has a rocking bod after 3 kids. Her diet plan just makes sense to me. She is VERY good at what she does. I pulled this off of her blog. Hope you enjoy!

I'm not currently working in my field, but I never mind giving nutritional advice when asked. For me, it has always been pointless to offer advice on the subject of nutrition because unless someone is truly motivated and ready to listen (and believe me), there is no use even discussing weight loss. This may sound kind of harsh, but I can always predict the outcome. I can tell who will reach their goal and who will not, most often during the first meeting. Unfortunately, many will not. But I have worked with several clients and friends who have been humble and serious enough to reach their nutritional goals. This makes me soooooo happy for them. After all, they are the one who worked so incredibly hard to gain control of their own health. Honestly, I can't take responsibility either way.

Here are a few nutritional tips that I tell anyone who asks me how to lose those extra pounds. I guarantee you will lose weight if you follow these simple tips. I say simple, not because they are easy, but because the ideas are basic:
Do not eat after 7:00 pm, or about three hours before bed. Of course this does not apply to pregnant or nursing mothers. It is such a wonderful feeling to be hungry for breakfast.
Cut out the soda! Drink at least 6- 80z. glasses of water each day.
Reducing calories is key. There is no scientific evidence that proves otherwise.
My favorite professor in college had her Doctorate in Nutrition and ANOTHER Doctorate in Exercise Physiology. I tell you this because she loved both exercise and nutrition. Her famous saying was, "It's 80% nutrition and 20% exercise!" This is how important nutrition is to weight loss.
Do not buy any treats or snack foods at the grocery store. If it is in your home, you will eat it.
Give yourself 1-2 free days each week. This is the day you can go out to dinner without counting servings, you can eat that ice cream you've been craving all week, and you can treat yourself! Reward yourself for doing well all week.
In order to lose weight, your body needs to feed off of its existing sources. This means that it is KEY to feel a sense of hunger. I'm not talking about light-headedness or feeling like you are going to faint, but just a little hunger pain that is telling your body, "hmmmm, I want to eat something." If you never feel hungry, you will never lose weight.
Never eat less than 1200 calories/day. This is called starvation mode and will only confuse your body.
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love to eat!!! I am not your typical health nut. I believe in moderation and I do treat myself and never starve myself. I do not pay large amounts for fad health food. I refuse to pay an arm and a leg for organic foods. I don't take a ton of supplements, although a good multivitamin is definitely important. People who don't know me well always seem surprised when I'm the one who brings the fatty food to the party!!! :)

Nutrition is a science. The science cannot be disputed, but there are different ways to go about losing weight. For example: you can count calories, fat grams, serving sizes, eat three meals a day with one snack, each every two hours throughout the day, etc etc etc! I have many tricks up my sleeve including the above mentioned to help people lose weight (if they want to). I am happy to help anyone if they are ready and willing to reach their goal.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1371860272916642439.post-54155333880514811712009-10-18T22:01:00.000-07:002009-10-18T22:03:05.898-07:00DisclaimerTHe fallow post is an artical that I found which I thought would be helpful for Mommys. We lead chaotic lives and often don't have time to cook. And of course, a lot of our kids also tend to be picky eaters.

The following items are guilt-free convenient foods because they're easy and healthy. Best part of all, they've been tested by thousands of families and kids of all ages (personally at my nutrition center) and have been widely accepted.

BREAKFAST OPTIONS

Amy’s Breakfast Burrito
• Made from organic beans, tofu, whole wheat flour, brown rice, and veggies. No high fructose corn syrup or other nonsense.
• Portion controlled at 250 calories per burrito – plus 5 grams of fiber, 9 grams protein
• Wrap in a paper towel and pop in microwave for 3 minutes – done!

Kashi Go Lean frozen waffles, plain or blueberry
• For starchy breakfast waffles, this brand provides an impressive amount of protein and fiber.

• 2 Toasted Waffles = 170 calories, 8 grams protein, and 6 grams fiber!
